Our Clinical Departments

The Department of Clinical Services is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the delivery of quality healthcare services within the hospital. It ensures efficient patient care, promotes adherence to clinical standards and protocols, and facilitates collaboration among various clinical departments. The department also supports healthcare personnel in providing safe, effective, and patient-centered services. Through continuous monitoring and improvement initiatives, it contributes to the overall excellence of healthcare delivery in the institution.

The Nursing Services Department is one of the core clinical departments of the hospital, responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive nursing care across all service delivery units. The department ensures the provision of safe, patient-centred, evidence-based, and quality nursing services in accordance with professional ethics, national standards, and institutional policies. It also oversees nursing administration, workforce development, quality improvement, infection prevention and control, continuing professional education, and the effective utilization of nursing resources to support optimal patient outcomes.

Health information Management is a discipline that is responsible for storage, processing, documentation, retrieving and maintaining a digital and traditional information of patient use in patient care, Research ,planning, and decisions making. Health information Management is also a discipline with the responsibility of transforming patient diagnosis into code numbers using ICD10 , HIM is also responsible for compiling Hospital health data that is use for planning and decisions making.

The Medical Laboratory Department is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising laboratory operations to ensure the delivery of accurate, reliable, and high-quality diagnostic services. The department upholds professional standards, supports clinical decision-making, and contributes to effective patient care through timely and efficient laboratory investigations.

The Dental Surgery Department provides preventive, curative, and rehabilitative oral healthcare services, while advancing research, education, and the promotion of optimal oral health in the community.

The department provides pharmaceutical care and patient counseling to promote the safe and effective use of medicines. It offers accurate drug information and optimizes medication therapy to improve treatment outcomes. Patients are educated on the proper use of their medications and possible precautions. Through continuous guidance and support, the department enhances compliance and adherence to prescribed treatments.

The Radiology Department is a specialized diagnostic and imaging unit dedicated to providing accurate and timely medical imaging services. The department utilizes advanced imaging technologies to diagnose, monitor, and support the treatment of various medical conditions. Committed to excellence, patient safety, and quality care, the department plays a vital role in enhancing clinical decision-making and improving patient outcomes.

The Physiotherapy Department assesses, diagnoses, and evaluates movement-related conditions and physical dysfunctions. It provides evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation services to restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve physical function. The department promotes recovery through personalized therapy programs and patient education. Its goal is to enhance independence, quality of life, and overall well-being.

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department is a specialized healthcare unit dedicated to promoting optimal health through proper nutrition and dietary management. The department provides evidence-based nutrition care, including nutritional assessment, counseling, education, and therapeutic diet services for patients, staff, and the wider community.

The Social Welfare Department at FMC provides support services to patients and their families to address social, emotional, and financial challenges related to healthcare. It assists in patient counseling, discharge planning, and access to available social support systems. The department collaborates with healthcare teams to promote holistic patient care and well-being. Its goal is to improve patient recovery and ensure continuity of care through effective social intervention.

The department is responsible for conducting routine inspections, disease surveillance and notification, immunization activities, and health education programs. It works to prevent and control diseases, monitor public health conditions, promote immunization coverage, and enhance community awareness through training and educational initiatives aimed at improving overall health and well-being.

The Office of the Head of Administration is integral to the effective functioning of the center, reporting directly to the Medical Director. This department oversees all administrative responsibilities, including conducting correspondence and maintaining comprehensive records of the center. Additionally, it is tasked with performing secretarial duties for the Board of Management, ensuring smooth communication and organization within the administrative framework.

The Finance and Accounts Department is the financial control and reporting unit of the hospital, responsible for ensuring that all public funds are properly received, managed, accounted for, and disbursed in accordance with government financial regulations and standards. The department provides efficient financial management, maintains accurate financial records, and supports management decision-making through timely and reliable financial information. Its key functions include budget preparation and monitoring, treasury and cash management, payroll and salary administration through IPPIS, preparation of financial statements in line with IPSAS, and the collection and remittance of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the Treasury Single Account (TSA). The department is committed to accountability, transparency, and compliance with the guidelines of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), the Federal Ministry of Finance (FMoF), and the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), while ensuring the availability of funds for effective hospital operations, staff salaries, and developmental projects.

The department is saddled with the responsibility of maintenance of all the structures in the hospital to include minor repairs, renovation, upgrade, as well as new construction. It also has as part of its mandate, Design (both architectural, structural, and services) preparation of Bill of Quantities(BoQ), As well as preparation of Complete tender documents and tender evaluation and examination. The department is also responsible for supervision of construction projects in the centre. It is also responsible for maintenance and operation of all the Vehicles and Generators of the centre; maintenance of medical equipment, maintenance and installations of electrical services, water supply, and laundry services to mention a few. The department has 7 units under its watch. They are: Bio medical unit, Civil Works unit, Electrical unit, Estate unit, Laundry and tailoring unit, Mechanical Unit, and Water Supply unit
